A French woman was sentenced to jail time after causing the death of her teenage daughter, who allegedly suffered from abuse at the hands of her mother for years due to the woman's hatred for her father.

54-year-old Sandrine Pissarra has been sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 20 years served after being convicted of charges relating to the death of her 13-year-old daughter, Amandine, reported France24.

Amandine, who died in 2020, weighed just 28 kilograms (62 pounds) at the time of her death. She was 1.55 metres (five feet and one inch) tall. According to the medical examiner's report, the girl suffered from extreme weight and muscle loss as well as septicaemia leading to her eventual passing.

Pissarra alleged that Amandine was not deprived of food, but instead had an eating disorder. She further alleged that on the day of Amandine's death, the teenager agreed to eat some sugar, a little bit of fruit puree and a high-protein drink before throwing up. No one was able to confirm Pissarra's claims.

Amandine had lost teeth and hair before she died. She further suffered from physical blows to her body, punches, kicks, hair pulling, repeated shouting, insults and jostling, according to prosecutor Jean-Marie Beney. Furthermore, she had allegedly been locked for weeks in a windowless room without food.

Prosecutors continued to describe Pissarra as a "domestic tyrant, dictator of the home, executioner of Amandine, there can only be one sentence -- a life term with a minimum of 20 years served in prison."

A psychiatric evaluation of Pissarra concluded that she harbored a deep hatred towards Amandine's father which she materialized through her abuse of Amandine. Amandine allegedly suffered at her mother's hands for years, experiencing abuse "the sole purpose of which was to drag her into shameful and humiliating agony."

Pissarra's ex, 49-year-old Jean-Michel Cros, was also sentenced to 20 years in prison for failing to provide Amandine with proper care.
