A Kansas man who stabbed his father 57 times was found "not guilty by mental disease or defect."

Robert W. Fapp, 38, was ordered hospitalized by Shawnee County District Court Judge Brett Watson following a one-day bench trial, cjonline.com reported. Fapp will committed to Larned State Hospital.

Fapp had been charged with two counts of mistreatment of a dependent adult or elder person and one count each of intentional or premeditated first-degree murder, first-degree murder in the commission of a felony, attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery, the website reported.

The incident happened in April 2024. Fapp stabbed his father Ross Fapp to death and injured his mother. When police arrived, they found Robert Fapp on top of his father repeatedly stabbing him in the chest, WIBW-13 reported.

Court documents state that Robert Fapp first attacked his mother and began stabbing his father after his father attempted to intervene, KSNT-27 reported. The mother, Katherine, was found by police on the front porch, bleeding heavily.

When Robert Fapp was taken into custody he had to be restrained as he after fighting with officers, WIBW-13 reported.
