As thousands of President-elect Donald Trump supporters make their way to Washington D.C. to celebrate his inauguration, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., is planning to miss it.

"All these journalists are like, 'Congresswoman, are you going to the inauguration?'" she said via her Instagram account when announcing her decision. "Let me make myself clear: I don't celebrate rapists. So, no, I'm not going to the inauguration tomorrow."

Responding to a popular conservative account who suggested the President-elect should sue her, Ocasio Cortez wrote, "Oh, are you triggered? Cry more."

Some social media users celebrated Ocasio-Cortez's words, supporting her for "taking a stand against a known abuser" and having the "spine to say it."

Others condemned her video. "This is how you divide America even more," one user wrote. "Go back to bartending, and enjoy your new defamation lawsuit," another one added.

Trump, who is set to be sworn in as the 47th president of the United States on Monday, has faced multiple allegations of sexual misconduct, including accusations of rape and assault.

In November 2024, a lawyer representing E. Jean Carroll, the journalist that Trump has been civilly convicted of crimes against, reminded Trump of the almost $90 million he has been ordered to pay her, which she still has not received.

Carroll accused Trump of raping her in a New York City department store dressing room in the late 1990s. While the Republican leader denied the allegation, he was convicted of defaming Carroll in May of 2023.

A staunch supporter of the Democratic party, Carroll has largely aided in the presidential campaign of Vice President Kamala Harris, having used her platforms to urge voters to cast their ballots for the Democratic candidate.

Other women who have accused Trump of sexual misconduct against them include former "The Apprentice" contestant Summer Zervos, multiple Miss Teen USA Contestants, and Trump's ex-wife Ivana Trump.

The President-elect has consistently denied all allegations, often labeling them as politically motivated or false.
