A recent audit has revealed serious allegations of misconduct, including sexual activities on city property and misuse of city funds, involving former officials from Yukon, Oklahoma.
An audit conducted by forensic accountant Michael Breon, covering over two decades of city staff practices, allegedly exposed widespread financial mismanagement and sexual harassment.
The unethical conduct was said to have occurred during the tenures of former officials, including ex-Mayor Shelli Selby and former City Manager Jim Crosby, according to KFOR.
Speaking with the outlet, Breon said that "a lot of folks knew about this and about this taking place on city property and on city time."
The audit report alleges that sexual encounters occurred on city property and during work hours, but were not properly investigated, as Selby reportedly dismissed the allegations.
Other financial irregularities included a $185,000 diversion of funds to a non-profit organization, misreporting of personal income and overpayment of vacation benefits.
Current Yukon Mayor Brian Pillmore has confirmed that federal and state authorities are aware of the allegations.
The City of Yukon is working to rectify the financial mismanagement and corruption, with attempts to recover the diverted funds. A criminal investigation is potentially forthcoming, but it is unclear whether local, state or federal authorities will pursue one.
