The career of José Fernando Cosculluela Suárez, better known as Cosculluela, has been overshadowed by his repeated run-ins with the law, with a new episode taking place recently. Concretely, he could again face jail time for a hit-and-run incident.
Authorities said a person recklessly drivin a Hummer struck two people, a woman and a man riding horses in Humacao, Puerto Rico.
The accident, which resulted in the death of both horses and serious injuries to the woman, occurred on May 12, 2024, but only went viral recently.
Yamil Juarbe, leading the case in Puerto Rico, has identified the Puerto Rican artist as the sole suspect and stated that he will face legal consequences.
"Cosculluela was summoned to the Criminal Investigations Corps (CIC), not the prosecutor's office. He was called to the Humacao precinct as part of the investigation. I have to be honest; at this point in the investigation, even though it's not concluded, I cannot seriously tell the public that we don't have a suspect. José Fernando Cosculluela is the suspect in hitting these two individuals and causing the death of two horses," Juarbe told the press.
The prosecutor further emphasized that the reggaeton artist was driving the vehicle involved in the accident.
"He is the sole suspect in the case and the only person driving that vehicle," Juarbe added.
Will Cosculluela face prison time?
According to recent police reports, the renowned singer must answer for reckless driving, fleeing the scene of the crime, animal abuse, and tampering with evidence.
Although Cosculluela appeared in court on January 15, the prosecutor will decide on January 30 whether he will serve a sentence or be cleared of charges.
So far, "El Príncipe del Verso" has not commented on the matter or made any statements to the press.
A dark past
This is not the first time the Puerto Rican urban music artist has been in legal trouble. He is currently serving a three-year probation sentence for domestic violence against his ex-wife, Jennifer Fungenzi.
In 2012, he was arrested in Puerto Rico for driving a Porsche Cayenne with an expired license and ignoring traffic signals.
Now, he faces a new challenge in his homeland he may not escape.
