North Carolina police continue to investigate the mystery of human remains that two duck hunters found.
"There was an autopsy this morning. It will take some time before we get [a] positive identification," said Alexander County Sheriff Chad Pennell.
The remains were found around 6 p.m. on Jan. 13. The men who found the body were duck hunting in a wooded area near the 1600 block of Highway 16 North in Taylorsville. Police have not released details regarding the investigation, such as the cause of death.
"At this time, the identity of the human remains is unknown," law enforcement stated previously.
The Alexander County Sheriff's Office and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation are assisting in the processing of the scene and with the investigation.
