Michigan police have been searching a landfill related to the disappearance of a woman they believe was murdered by her ex-boyfriend.

"Trying to bring closure to the family," Roseville Police Chief Mitch Berlin said, according to the Associated Press. "We had 40, 50 officers out here."

Hairstylist Ashley Elkins, 30, disappeared Jan. 2. Elkins' ex-boyfriend, Deandre Booker, 32, of Roseville, Michigan, was charged with lying to investigators on Jan. 8, WDIV-4 reported.

Police were searching the Pine Tree landfill, which accepts trash from across southeastern Michigan. The AP reported that the search would continue on Tuesday.

Elkins' car was found a few miles from Booker's residence on Jan. 7. It was missing its license place, WDIV-4 reported. The next day Booker was arrested. Police also had searched Booker's home.

"What they indicated was there was substantial evidence collected at the home of the ex-boyfriend, and they also indicated that based upon that evidence that Ashley was murdered. They don't have her body at this time. They do have good leads where her body is. They also indicated that the boyfriend is in custody on related charges not for murder at this time," family spokesperson Maurice Morton told the station previously.
