The daughter of the French woman who was drugged and raped for 10 years by her husband has publicly shared that she may have also been a victim of abuse.
Dominique Pelicot was arrested after being caught filming upskirt footage, which led to the discovery of thousands of videos and photos of his wife, Gisèle, being drugged and raped by him and 50 other men.
His daughter, Caroline Darian, was later shown photos of herself, unconscious and abused, leading her to suspect she too was a victim of her father's abuse, she said in an interview with the BBC.
"At that moment, I lost what was a normal life," Darian said. "I remember I shouted, I cried, I even insulted him ... It was like an earthquake. A tsunami."
Pelicot was sentenced to 20 years in prison for his crimes, and 50 men involved in the abuse were also convicted.
Darian, now a passionate advocate for raising awareness of chemical submission, continues to process her trauma while fighting for greater understanding of this form of assault.
She is also working to educate children about sexual abuse and its warning signs.
Gisèle continues to recover from the ordeal but struggles with the trauma of accepting the full extent of her husband's actions.
