The most talked-about divorce case in reggaetón has taken a surprising turn. Mireddys González, the now former wife of Daddy Yankee, has made an unexpected move in her legal battle by hiring Mariel Colón, the former lawyer of Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán.

After Mireddys and her sister, Ayeicha González's, previous defense team resigned, they requested new representation. Now, Colón and Roberto Alonso Santiago will represent them amidst an ongoing conflict over control of Daddy Yankee's businesses.

Mariel Colón is not your average lawyer

Mariel Colón gained fame for defending high-profile figures like drug lord Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán and his wife, Emma Coronel. The 31-year-old Puerto Rican lawyer is known for her experience in headline-making cases, making her a good fit for this legal drama.

Entering the entertainment world with such a high-profile divorce case could redefine the course of Daddy Yankee's proceedings.

Adding to her unique profile, Colón is also a singer and model.

Under her stage name "Mariel La Abogada," she even released a song dedicated to El Chapo's wife, Emma Coronel and featuring Carín León at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico.

The complicated battle between Mireddys and Daddy Yankee

This divorce involves more than the usual division of assets like homes, cars, and money. Control of Daddy Yankee's business empire is at stake. His legal team alleges Mireddys initiated a failed $100 million transfer, which is denied by the González sisters.

A judge recently ordered Daddy Yankee to regain presidency over his corporations, freezing $75 million for 30 days to allow a review of corporate finances. This step aims to resolve disputes over business control.

Tensions flared when the González sisters skipped a court-ordered meeting, prompting Daddy Yankee's legal team to accuse them of noncompliance. A series of motions and counter-motions followed.

At one point, arrest warrants were issued against the sisters but were lifted after they handed over access to corporate accounts. However, Daddy Yankee's defense claims key documents are still missing.

The next hearing is set for January 14 and is expected to be a virtual one, as one of Daddy Yankee's lawyers will be outside Puerto Rico.

This session could play a pivotal role in the case's trajectory, blending elements of family and corporate law in a battle that complicates the divorce process.
