A man who shot his estranged wife to death as she left her job at Little Rock's Metropolitan Emergency Medical Services has been sentenced.
Omar Pena-Romero, 23, was sentenced to 60 years in prison for the shooting death of Cassandra Pena-Romero, 27, in August 2023, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported.
Pena-Romero had also been an employee at the dispatch center, but at the time of the shooting he was not allowed on the property because Cassandra had accused him of rape and assault, Fox News reported.
Pena-Romera had previously pleaded guilty to the crime. In a letter to Fox, Pena-Romera wrote, "[I] know what [I] did is unforgivable and [I]'m not here to make excuses."
In the letter, Pena-Romera states that when he got out of jail on the rape allegation, he was "served divorce paperwork saying she wanted an immediate divorce and full custody of our son with no visitation allowed."
The letter concluded with Pena-Romera stating "[I] let the evil that got to me win and [I] will never forgive myself," Fox News reported.
After shooting Cassandra in the parking lot, Arkansas state police arrested him on Interstate 30 near Texarkana.
