With President-elect Trump set to return to office, supporters have taken to social media to celebrate the anniversary of the Jan. 6 Capitol riots.
Congress is set to count the electoral votes today, four years after Trump's supporters swarmed the Capitol, creating chaos in a desperate attempt to stop the process.

Never forget:
1. There was no riot at the capitol until the capitol police incited the crowd by firing flash bang grenades, tear gas and rubber bullets at them
2. Not 1 person was ever charged with insurrection#Jan6 #PatriotDay pic.twitter.com/w6fxssCt8z
They slandered Trump.

They impeached Trump.
They arrested Trump.
They raided Trump.
They charged Trump.
They even shot at Trump.
And he will be certified as your 47th President of the United States today.
Happy Fake Insurrection Day!
Justice is quickly approaching!
In contrast to the celebratory posts on X, former Capitol Police Officer Sgt. Aquilino Gonell shared his recollection of Jan. 6 in a column in The Hill:
"I served in the U.S. Army and witnessed violence in combat, but I never thought I would see similar brutality inside the U.S. Capitol. I was assaulted by rioters for five hours. I was barricading the tunnels with my body, receiving blow after blow from rioters using makeshift weapons and stolen police gear. By the end, I was covered in my own blood. Exhausted, overwhelmed, and trampled, I did not know whether I would make it home to see my wife and child. Those horrible memories are seared into my brain. I will never forget that feeling."
Ashli Babbitt, 35, died after being shot by a Capitol police officer as she attempted to climb over a barricade near the House chamber where members of Congress were present, USA Today reported. Two individuals had heart attacks, and another person died of amphetamine intoxication during the incident.
An 800-page report on the incident found that Trump had planned to declare victory even if he lost and that Trump's top aides knew the fraud claims were bogus and would not alter the outcome of the election, NPR reported
"President Trump had summoned a mob, including armed extremists and conspiracy theorists, to Washington, DC on the same day the joint session of Congress was to meet. He then told that same mob to march on the US Capitol and 'fight.' They clearly got the message," NPR quoted the report.
Trump has said he plans to pardon many of the 1,500 people who have been charged with crimes related to the Jan. 6 attack, CBS News reported.
