Police in Brazil have arrested the Christmas cake killer who stands accused of killing three family members with a poisoned holiday dessert, while three more went to the hospital.

Six people fell ill Dec. 23 after eating a traditional Brazilian Christmas cake "Bolo de Natal," The Independent reported. Three people died and three were hospitalized.

Now, police have arrested Deise Moura, the daugher-in-law of the woman who baked the deadly cake. The mother-in-law baker Zeli Dos Anjos, is still hospitalized, suffering from the affects of having been poisoned, The Sun reported. Her two sisters, Maida da Silva, 58, and Neuza Dos Anjos, 65, died along with Neuza's daughter Tatiana Dos Santos, 43.

In Septemeber, Zeli's husband, Paulo, 68, died from food poisoning after eating a banana, The Daily Mail reported. Paulo's death drew more scrutiny from investigators following the Dec. 23 incident.

Police suspect arsenic as the likely cause of the deaths and illnesses following blood tests conducted on one of the family members who were killed and two surviving members, The Independent reported.

Moura faces three homicide charges and three attempted homicide charges, The Sun went on to reveal.

The newspaper reported that people complained the cake tasted "bitter and peppery," and within minutes, those who had eaten it were vomiting, and ambulances had been called, The Metro reported.
