A Kentucky man tried to cover up a murder after a late-night meet up by staging a car accident, according to police.

Ali Fadil, 30 of Bowling Green, Kentucky, was arrested and charged with murder Thursday, WBKO-13 reported.

The incident began around 3 a.m. on Dec. 22 when a passing motorist called the Warren County Sheriff's office to report that a wrecked vehicle appeared to have struck a utility pole, local police stated.

When police arrived, they assessed that the person in the car, Michael Scott Lee, was dead. However, police said the injuries Lee had did not appear to be consistent with having been sustained in a car accident or with the damage to the vehicle.

Detectives later learned that Lee had been planning to meet someone around 10 p.m. on Dec. 21. According to police, the investigation led to Fadil.

"Through further investigation, detectives and FBI analysts were able to obtain additional information that substantiated the involvement of Fadil in the death of Michael Scott Lee," the police statement reads. "We would like to thank our federal partners for their assistance in this investigation. The investigation is ongoing."
