Police continue to piece together details about the man who drove a truck down Bourbon Street in the early hours of New Year's Day killing 10 and injuring dozens.
The attack happened at about 3:15 a.m. Initial reports stated that the man had evaded barricades, but officials have confirmed the barricades were down as they were being replaced, nola.com reported. The plan was to have the new barricades in place in time for the Super Bowl.
The truck had a Texas license plate, although police had not released whether the man was a resident of Texas. ABC News reported that the truck was rented through the ridesharing app Turo.
"My husband rents cars through the Turo app. I can't tell you anything else. I'm here with my kids, and this is devastating," the wife of the man who rented the truck through Turo told ABC.
After driving through crowds, the driver of the truck emerged and died in an exchange of gunfire with law enforcement, CNN reported. The network also reported that police are looking into possible associates of the dead suspect and whether he had any potential connections in Texas.
Fox News reported initially reported that the truck had been tracked crossing the southern border at Eagle Pass, Texas, but this proved false and Fox later stated the truck had not crossed the border.
