How Chris Mova's Mission-Driven Approach Is Reshaping Californian Personal Injury Law

By

Personal injury law often faces criticism for its volume-based approach to cases. Chris Mova, founder of Mova Law Group, is challenging this model with a practice built on personal experience and dedicated client advocacy.

The Path to Practice

After graduating, Mova quickly noticed a troubling pattern in personal injury law. "Other firms were focused on volume, treating clients like numbers," he recalls. "I saw they were all the same. They were all volume-based businesses and they didn't really care about their clients."

His early days as a solo practitioner were humble but purposeful. Starting with minimal resources, Mova would set up booths at local swap meets, offering free legal advice and building trust within the community one conversation at a time.

This grassroots approach, though unconventional, helped him understand the real needs of his future clients. "Going to swap meets was the only place I could think of going to," he says. "But it taught me the value of really listening to people's stories."

An Unconventional Approach

Mova's unique approach stems from personal experience. At age seven, a car accident left him with a traumatic brain injury. His immigrant parents, unfamiliar with the legal system in their newly adopted country, accepted a quick insurance settlement that left them struggling with mounting medical bills. "That experience taught me exactly how insurance companies operate," Mova explains, "and exactly the kind of lawyer I wanted to become."

Today, Mova Law Group maintains a deliberately small caseload and focuses on quality representation over quantity. This strategy has led to significant victories, including a $450,000 settlement for a case that had previously been rejected by four other firms.

Commitment to Community and Empowerment

The firm's philosophy extends beyond case results. "Every client who walks through our door reminds me of my parents all those years ago when they were confused, worried, and needing someone to fight for them," Mova says. This is the context that drives him and his firm's commitment to client education and comprehensive case management.

Looking Towards the Future

Looking ahead, Mova plans to expand operations while maintaining his client-focused approach. His practice is headquartered in San Diego, but he has since expanded with offices throughout the state of California, from San Francisco to Temecula and Sacramento.

"I'm not interested in being the biggest firm," Mova states. "But I do want to be known as the firm that takes the tough cases and wins them, the firm that fights for clients other lawyers have turned away."
