A Texas high schooler is facing up to two years in prison for allegedly poisoning and killing the goat of another high schooler.
The family of the student whose goat was allegedly poisoned by Aubrey Vanlandingham, 17, said that the teen showed no remorse, as reported by the Daily Mail. Vanlandingham was arrested and charged with torturing an animal.
Vanlandingham allegedly looked up queries such as "how much bleach kills a goat," "if goats inject bleach do they die" and "poisoning pets, what you should know" before poisoning Willy, a six-month-old goat, with pesticides over a period of three days, according to the outlet. She then reportedly looked up how to delete her search history.
CCTV footage allegedly depicts Vanlandingham, who had been on the same cheerleading team as Willy's owner, "forcing a syringe-like item into the goats mouth," according to court documents obtained by the Daily Mail. Willy could be seen attempting to get away from her, before she reported put the syringe into his mouth two more times.
After poisoning the goat, she reportedly called her classmate in order to inform her that Willy had been "convulsing" and "acting funny," court documents stated.
"I don't like cheaters," Vanlandingham told law enforcement when questioned about her actions, according to an affidavit obtained by CBS Austin.
"We were there when he passed away. My daughter was actually holding him. So that was very traumatic," the high schooler's mom told the Daily Mail. "She admitted to poisoning him multiple times over several days. So it's a pretty rough situation."
"It's all bizarre. We want justice served, we don't want a slap on the wrist. We want to make sure that she is punished," the mom continued. "At this point we don't feel like she thinks she's going to be punished and she needs to be."
Vanlandingham faces up to two years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
According to a necropsy, Willy died of organophosphate intoxication from ingesting phosmet, a chemical found in pesticides.
"She's saying it's because of cheating. But from what we've deciphered, she was just really jealous," the mother told the outlet.
"You can't even cheat when it comes to showing goats," added the mother. "It makes no sense, so that's where the jealousy really kind of falls into place," she continued. "They weren't friends, and my daughter is a lot younger, so they didn't really interact at all so that's what's even more bizarre."
