A Pennsylvania couple is dead in an apparent murder-suicide the occurred just days before Christmas.

At 6:22 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 22, police found a Theresa "Terri" Day shot to death inside a home. Jeffrey Day was also found with what police believe was a self-inflicted wound, WPXI-11 reported.

Terri Day, 51, had a long career in nursing, according to her obituary. Day attended the West Penn School of Nursing and earned her BSN from Waynesburg University. Terri's career started at Monsour Medical Center. She then worked as a Neuro ICU nurse at Shadyside Hospital and in ICU at Westmoreland Hospital, it stated.

"Most recently Terri was a critical care nurse and the nurse manager of hospital operations at AHN Forbes Regional Hospital, where she was beloved by the whole staff. She was an accomplished nurse who was the recipient of numerous awards, including the Beacon, Cameo Caring, Legacy, and most recently, the Daisy Nurse Leader award," the obituary states.

Westmoreland County police are continuing to investigate the shooting.
