A former North Yorkshire Police officer has been permanently banned from serving in law enforcement after filming himself performing a solo sex act in uniform at a police station and sending the video to a woman via WhatsApp.

PC Simon Barker recorded the explicit video in February 2022 while on duty and clearly identifiable, Yorkshire Live reported. He resigned from his position on Selby's rural crime task force the day before his misconduct hearing.

The hearing, held on Dec. 10 and chaired by Chief Constable Tim Forber, determined that Barker's behavior amounted to gross misconduct. Forber stated that if Barker had not already resigned, he would have been dismissed.

"By this action, you have brought discredit on the police service," Forber said, emphasizing that Barker's actions posed a "clear risk" of damaging public confidence in law enforcement.

"This conduct," Forber continued, "Is also a breach of the standards of professional behavior of authority, respect and courtesy."

The former officer has been added to the national police barred list, ensuring he can never return to law enforcement.

In a statement, Barker's union representative apologized on his behalf, noting that he had been "proud" to serve with the force.
