Social Media Users Compare Luigi Mangione to 'Prettier Jesus' After Perp Walk in New York: 'Look Like a 21st Century Martyr'

Despite Luigi Mangione's recent extradition to New York to await trial, online support has continued for the accused murderer as many users likened photos of his perp walk to that of Jesus.

The New York Police Department shared photos of Mangione being escorted to and from his flight from Pennsylvania to New York, where he will await trial for several murder charges in connection with the death of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

However, many social media users supporting Mangione drew comparisons to the alleged killer being surrounded by a large police presence to the accounts of Jesus' crucifixion.

"NYPD apparently sat around asking themselves 'how can we arrange to transport Mangione in a way that makes him look to his supporters like Christ being taken to the cross,'" one user tweeted.

"NYPD choreographed a perp walk that makes Luigi Mangione look like a twenty-first-century martyr," another user wrote on X. "They think they control the optics, but they are way out of their depth."

"It's like depictions of Christ," another user commented. One wrote, "He's kinda like a prettier Jesus."

Other made fun of the situation, joking that NYPD took photos of Mangione looking attractive on purpose.

"NYPD social media manager taking this like 'c***y!'" one user tweeted. Several users also joked that NYPD asked their photographer to make Mangione look "brooding and sexy."

Mangione has been charged with first- and second-degree murder in New York. He is also facing federal charges, in addition to charges in Pennsylvania where he was taken into custody.

Mangione has not entered a plea yet. He is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, the same prison where Sean "Diddy" Combs is being held for charges of sex trafficking.
