The mother of Madison Mogen, one of four University of Idaho students stabbed to death in 2022, broke her silence this week.
Karen Laramie told Today that she still dreams about her daughter and remembers the way she lived her life with kindness and love.
"Sometimes I see her in dreams when she's like a toddler and those days when they still hug you," Laramie said. "And sometimes, I see her in dreams when she's more of an adult. And it's always about hugs and appreciation."
Bryan Kohberger is accused of stabbing to death Mogen, 21, Kaylee Goncalves, 21, Xana Kernodle, 20, and Ethan Chapin, 20. The attack occurred at an off-campus house the morning of Nov. 13, 2022. At the time of the incident, Kohberger was a Ph.D criminology student at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington, located about eight miles from the crime scene.
Laramie said she remembered going shopping with Mogen and marveling at how she treated other people. "You're just so kind to everybody. Did we really engrain that in you? Because that's amazing. She just had that genuine love that is impossible to describe."
When asked about the progress of the case, which is slated to go to trial next summer, Laramie said: "I don't have a lot of comments on that. I would say that the legal system is not about the victims, and I'll leave it at that."
Laramie sits on the board of the Made with Kindness Foundation, which honors Mogen, Goncalves, and Kernodle.
