School shooter Natalie Rupnow's home life was marked by multiple marriages and divorces by her parents, according to a report.
Rupnow, 15, killed two people and wounded six in a shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin, on Monday, where she was also a student, before committing suicide.
Court records show that Rupnow's parents divorced and then remarried multiple times, according to The Washington Post. Rupnow also was in therapy.
Rupnow's parents - Mellissa and Jeff - first married in 2011, two years after she was born. In 2014, the couple divorced and agreed to joint custody. In 2017, the couple remarried and then divorced again 2020. The couple remarried again shortly after the 2020 divorce only to petition for divorce again in April 2021, The Washington Post reported.
In May 2021, a judge granted the divorce but noted that "parties [were] admonished concerning remarriage," the newspaper reported. In other court documents, the newspaper found that the couple did have a positive co-parenting relationship: "The parents report a generally positive co-parenting relationship and will continue to communicate with one another by text messages and phone conversations."
In a manifesto that has been attributed to Rupnow, who went by "Samantha," she referred to her parents as "scum" and used "lies" and "manipulation" to acquire the gun she used in the shooting, Channel 2 Now reported. The manifesto was titled "War Against Humanity." Police have yet to verify Rupnow as the author.
Two of the students shot by Rupnow are in critical condition, and two of the victims have been released from the hospital, the Milwuakee Journal Sentinel reported. Police are continuing to investigate the shooting to determine a motive and said that both of Rupnow's parents have been cooperating with the investigation, the newspaper reported.
