An investigation is underway after three people were shot dead, including the shooter, and 6 others injured in a mass shooting at a Wisconsin school.
The shooting – believed to be perpetrated by a student – took place at Abundant Life Christian School Monday in Madison, Wisconsin, according to police reported at a press conference.
The juvenile lone shooter is "down," police said without elaborating on a manner of death, according to the outlet. Officers did not fire their weapons.
"We're still going through, collecting evidence, collecting information, making sure that our community is safe from what is a sad day for our community and for our country," Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes told reporters at a press briefing following the shooting.
Seven people were transported to the hospital for treatment.
The ages of the victims and suspect remain unclear, but the school serves students in grades K-12.
"Prayers Requested! Today, we had an active shooter incident at ALCS," the school confirmed on Facebook. "We are in the midst of following up. We will share information as we are able.
Please pray for our Challenger Family."
Madison's police chief stated, according to Fox9, that his officers had undergone training for a scenario like this school shooting just two weeks ago.
The officers are prepared "to stop the killing, to stop the dying and find who is responsible."
A motive remains under investigation.
