A Florida man allegedly bludgeoned his mother to death with a brick following a dispute over a "trust fund," according to authorities.
Russell Moore, 36, has been charged with first-degree murder and tampering with physical evidence in connection with the death of his 54-year-old mother Shambray Levy.
He has not yet entered a plea to the charges.
Deputies responded to a welfare check Monday at the Hillsborough County, Florida, home Levy shared with her son, after she failed to show up for work. She was found dead on the floor beneath a bloodied blanket, according to the criminal complaint obtained by the Lawyer Herald.
The victim "had visible marbling and appeared to be in the decomposition process," detectives wrote in the complaint.
A review of indoor home surveillance footage allegedly captured the harrowing moments leading up to Levy's death.
"The defendant grabs the victim from behind and throws her onto the tile floor before jumping on top of the victim and violently beating her head with his fists as well as wrapping his hands and arms around her neck and strangulating her," the complaint read.
Moore then allegedly retrieved a brick and dropped it on his mother's head twice during the deadly six-minute attack, detectives alleged. From that point on, she remained motionless, and Moore allegedly bashed the camera with a shovel, disabling it from future recordings.
The victim's daughter, who is also Moore's sister, alleged she called her brother after she couldn't get a hold of their mother, inquiring about her whereabouts. He purportedly ambiguously responded: "It's fine. It's all been taken care of. They'll just put me down with lethal injection."
She also told detectives her mother had recently inherited a "'substantial' amount of money from her mother's estate after her recent passing."
Separately, the victim's friend alleged to investigators she warned Levy "repeatedly to put a lock on her door in fear of the defendant violently attacking her," the complaint read.
The victim previously told her friend about a domestic violence incident involving her son where he "threatened the victim with brass knuckles and the defendant had struck the victim against her will."
The friend also "stated the defendant was a trained boxer and had gotten in the victim's face several times before."
During an interview with detectives, Moore was asked where he was employed.
"The defendant stated he lives a 'normal, free life, now. Normal life. Till I get what belongs to me. My trust fund,'" he allegedly told detectives.
Moore also allegedly made several "spontaneous statements about it being his 'constitutional right' for lethal injection.'"
His arraignment is scheduled for Wednesday.
