An Oklahoma deputy who shot his officer wife 12 times in the face has been sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to first-degree murder.

Vaughn Cannon, 42, shot his wife, fellow deputy Jordan Pyle, 40, in the face a dozen times.

When a prosecutor asked Vaughn to look at an image of his dead wife, he simply uttered, "I will not," the Oklahoman reported.

The sentence does not carry the possibility of parole.

The newspaper reported that Jordan Pyle was found shot to death about 2 a.m. Aug. 30, 2023. Police arrested Vaughn at the scene. Detective John Revel testified that Cannon told police that he and his wife ran some errands, had dinner at a restaurant, and stopped at a bar for drinks before heading home.

The question of why and what happened leading up to the shooting has not been answered by Cannon, who says he does not recall much from the evening after they got home, according to News 9. The TV station reported that several witnesses testified that Vaughn was abusive, including his ex-wife. Also, investigators believe there was a heated domestic dispute leading up to the shooting.

News 9 reported that the Oklahoma City Medical Examiner's Office confirmed Pyle had been shot 12 times. She was shot 11 times on the left side of her face and one to the right.

"We're shaken to our core. I'm pissed off. I am mad at him for taking her life," the station quoted Cleveland County Sheriff Chris Amason. "Jordan was a ray of sunshine with a smile that could light up a room."
