A Pennsylvania man awarded $4.1 million for a wrongful conviction murder that sent him to prison for 24 years will soon return after he pleaded guilting to killing a man over $1,200.
Shaurn Thomas, 50, was sentenced to 24 years in prison in 1993 for murder Domingo Martinez during an armed robbery in North Philadelphia, per the Philadelphia Inquirer.
It was later discovered, however, that Thomas, who maintained his innocence throughout his decades-long sentence, was spending a night at a center for juvenile offenders the night of the murder, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
In 2017, he was cleared of all charges and awarded $4.1 million, but he will soon return to prison after he pleaded guilty to killing to shooting and killing Akeem Edwards, 38, last year because he did not pay Thomas for $1,200 worth of drugs.
Edwards was found guilty of third-degree murder, conspiracy, and illegal gun possession. His sentencing is set for February, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
