Hours after UnitedHealthcare executive Brian Thompson was gunned down on the streets of New York City, authorities in Minnesota responded to a bomb threat at his home.

The Maple Grove Police Department received an emailed bomb threat just after 7 PM on Wednesday, claiming a pipe bomb had been planted at Thompson's residence, according to TMZ.

A City Attorney in Maple Grove reported the threat to law enforcement, and the bomb squad was sent to investigate. No explosives were found at the property.

Police also searched the home of Thompson's estranged wife, Paulette "Pauley" Thompson, located a few blocks away. Security personnel at Paulette's residence, TMZ also revealed, reported seeing a woman in a Jeep Renegade with Illinois license plates place an item in her mailbox shortly before officers arrived.

The object, described as "an envelope the size of a cell phone," was investigated by a K-9 unit, but nothing was found.

Brian and Paulette Thompson have been separated for years but live in close proximity because one of their two children is still a minor.

Thompson, 50, was in New York City for the company's annual investors meeting when he was shot in the back and leg by a masked gunman Wednesday morning outside New York Hilton Midtown, police said.

He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Police said it "appeared the suspect was lying in wait" for at least five minutes before he approached the victim and fired off several rounds.

The suspect fled on foot northbound into an alleyway, where he appeared to hop onto an e-bike. A cell phone recovered in the alley has been collected as part of the investigation, said Kenny.

Police described the suspect as a light-skinned male, last seen wearing a light brown or cream colored jacket, a black face mask, black and white sneakers and a "very distinctive" gray backpack.

A $10,000 reward is being offered to anyone with information leading to an arrest.
