Tennessee State Sen. Ken Yager was apprehended for driving under the influence in Georgia after he was involved in a hit-and-run car crash, police say, and video of his sobriety tests appear to show he urinated in his pants.
Yager serves as chairman of the Tennessee Senate Republican Caucus.
He was driving his Ford Edge, which officials noticed due to its Tennessee license plates. According to Georgia Department of Public Safety officials, troopers located the SUV in the parking lot of Jekyll Market on Jekyll Island. Yager reportedly tripped and fell in the parking lot.
Upon being approached by law enforcement, Yager admitted to having been involved in a crash earlier. Officials also stated that his breath smelled like alcohol, reported News Channel 5.
Yager willingly took a breathalyzer test and conducted a field sobriety test.
"An unfortunate incident happened last night," Yager said in a statement Wednesday. "On the advice of my attorney, I cannot discuss the particulars at this time. I am and will continue to cooperate fully with authorities to bring this incident to an appropriate conclusion."
He was transported to the Glynn County Jail after being charged with hit and run; duty of driver to stop or return to scene of accident, failure to stop at a stop sign and DUI less safe driver.
He posted a $2,117 bond and was released on Wednesday.
