A Japanese man with a snake tattoo covering most of his face and neck was arrested for assault, to the shock of his neighbors.
Masashi Echizenya, 49, was arrested in Tokyo after shoplifting and assaulting an attendant who chased him out of the store. Echizenya allegedly headbutted the pursuing attendant multiple times before fleeing.
"He didn't seem like a bad person. He just looked like one," a neighbor told SoraNews24.
"I would bump into him in the laundry room and at first, I was really surprised, but when he talked, he was always soft-spoken and quite polite," another neighbor added.
Echizenya was arrested for the incident occurring on Nov. 15 and is currently exercising his right to remain silent on the pending charges against him.
A police investigation found that the tattooed bandit is a known beggar who is often seen asking passersby for money and cigarettes and generally making people feel uncomfortable, according to SoraNews24. It is unclear if that will affect his case's outcome.
