An Oregon teenager, seemingly a fan of the fictional serial killer from the TV show Dexter, has been convicted of raping and killing a 13-year-old girl after luring her into the woods in 2022, a jury determined.
Daniel R. Gore, 19, was found guilty of raping, assaulting, and killing Milana Li, according to a statement from the Washington County District Attorney's Office.
Further investigation uncovered Gore's disturbing obsession with violence. Detectives found an entry in Gore's journal where he wrote, "I feel like Dexter," referencing the notorious serial killer from the popular TV show, according to PEOPLE.
Li's body was discovered in a stream on May 10, 2022, in Washington County, Oregon. The Beaverton Police Department confirmed her death soon after.
The two-week trial revealed that Gore, then 16, had gained Li's trust before leading her into the woods near a tent where he had been living. The murder occurred on May 8, 2022.
Li had been reported missing from her Beaverton home on May 9. A large-scale search led investigators to her body the following day. Through cell phone data and security footage, authorities confirmed Li's last known encounter was with Gore.
Li, remembered as a "light" and a "true friend" by those who knew her, was mourned by her family and community. A GoFundMe campaign created after her death described her as someone who brought warmth and joy to everyone around her.
Gore, tried as an adult, faces a mandatory minimum of life in prison with the possibility of parole in 30
