A Nebraska woman has pled guilty to impersonating the mother of a 27-year-old man who spent almost two months posing as a high school student while sexually assaulting multiple victims.
Angela Navarro, 23, of Lincoln, took a plea deal after she was charged with misdemeanor criminal impersonation and child abuse, according to 1011Now.
The charge of felony criminal impersonation was dropped as part of the plea, and Navarro entered a no-contest plea.
Navarro's sentencing is scheduled for January 16, and she faces the possibility of up to one year in prison and a $1,000 fine on each charge.
The case stems from the actions of Zachary Scheich, 27, who was arrested in July 2023 after it was discovered that he had been posing as a student, 1011Now also revealed, under the name "Zak Hess" at Lincoln Northwest High School and Lincoln Southeast High School.
Scheich, who attended 54 days of school during the 2022-2023 academic year, created a false identity and fabricated documents to infiltrate the schools, where he engaged in inappropriate relationships with students.
Investigators found that while the crimes occurred off school grounds, they took place while Scheich was still enrolled in the two high schools. He was charged with multiple counts related to sexual assault, costing the district more than $6,000.
Scheich was sentenced to 85 to 120 years in prison and will not be eligible for parole for over 40 years. He is also required to register under Nebraska's Sex Offender Act.
