A man is in custody following a horrifying attack at the Sandhill Crane Golf Club in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, where a golfer was beaten to death with golf clubs on Monday afternoon.
Junior Boucher, 36, has been charged with first-degree murder after allegedly attacking the victim during a violent altercation that left witnesses in shock, WPBF reported. Police responded to the scene at the club's first hole at 1:22 p.m. after multiple 911 calls reported a man being attacked with golf clubs.
Upon arriving, officers found the victim near a pond, suffering from severe head injuries. Despite immediate lifesaving efforts by fire rescue personnel, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses described the terrifying sequence of events, stating that the attack began with Boucher yelling at the victim. As the confrontation escalated, the victim reportedly retreated. "He's trying to kill me!" witnesses heard him shout, before Boucher began repeatedly striking him with a golf club.
Boucher then chased the victim towards a pond, where he continued to bludgeon him with multiple blows to the head. According to witnesses, Boucher then jumped into the water, appeared to choke the victim, and resumed striking him with the club until the man lay lifeless.
After the assault, Boucher emerged from the water, removed his clothing, and began walking away from the scene. Police intercepted him after a brief chase, using an electronic control weapon to subdue and arrest him.
Authorities have not yet identified the victim or disclosed the motive behind the attack. The investigation is ongoing. Boucher is being held at the Palm Beach County Jail without bond.
