A teenage driver has been arrested after he allegedly hit and killed an elderly pedestrian in Manatee County, Florida, before fleeing the scene and then later returning back to it.
The 18-year-old unidentified driver was traveling in an SUV on U.S. 41 (14th Street West) and 66th Avenue West in Bradenton at around 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday night. A 62-year-old pedestrian was walking west on U.S. 41 at the same time, alongside his bicycle.
The SUV then hit the pedestrian, who died at the scene, reported Fox 13 News.
State troopers reported that the driver initially stopped the car and "briefly checked" on the pedestrian he'd hit before promptly driving away. A 17-year-old passenger was also in the vehicle at the time of the collision.
Neither individuals within the SUV were hurt in the incident.
A while later, the driver returned to the crash site where he was arrested and booked into the Manatee County Jail. He has been charged with leaving the scene of a crash with death
