Two sisters from Indiana are facing felony theft charges after allegedly misusing funds raised through a GoFundMe campaign for their dying dad's medical treatment expenses.

Courtney Carey, 38, and Ashley Wilburn, 35, are accused of raising more than $6,000 through the fundraiser site to help cover medical costs for their father, Steven Wilburn, after a December 22 car accident in Bloomington left him seriously injured.

Despite substantial donations, only around $635 were reportedly used towards their father, who passed away in May of this year, 25 News Now reported.

In October, a grand jury indicted the sisters on felony theft charges after an investigation revealed that while the GoFundMe funds were intended for Wilburn's care, most was misappropriated.

Carey originally created the page while her sister, Wilburn, reportedly sold promotional items linked to the campaign. Both have pleaded not guilty and are scheduled to appear January 9, 2025, in court for a pre-trial hearing.

The sisters remain free on bail. If convicted, they could face significant legal consequences.
