The son of Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit has been arrested on charges of rape and domestic abuse.

Marius Borg Høiby, 27, born before Mette-Marit's marriage to Crown Prince Haakon in 2001, has faced legal challenges since August, when he was arrested after a violent incident at an Oslo apartment.

Accusations against him have since expanded to include charges of domestic abuse, violations of restraining orders, and threats, affecting multiple alleged victims, the Guardian reported.

On November 13, Norwegian police detained Høiby on suspicion of engaging in "sexual intercourse with someone who is unconscious or for other reasons is unable to resist the act."

"What police can say about the rape is that it concerns a sexual act without intercourse. The victim is said to have been unable to resist the act," police said.

The latest arrest comes as he already faces allegations involving five individuals, including rape and domestic violence against three women with who he had relationships. Police also discovered a knife lodged in a bedroom wall during their investigation of an earlier incident.

Meanwhile, Høiby denies the charges but is cooperating with authorities while being held in custody.

Høiby's defense attorney, Øyvind Bratlien, has stated that he intends to explain himself fully to authorities.

It's possible for charges to be formally filed and for a trial to ensue. Norway's royal palace has refrained from commenting and have redirected inquiries to legal representatives.
