A Minnesota man accused of spraying his father with a barrage of bullets is accused of killing him "execution style" after breaking into the family's hunting cabin.
Kirk Edward Hazlett III, 31, has been charged with kidnapping and second-degree murder in connection with the death of his 62-year-old father, Kirk Edward Hazlett II, charging documents filed Monday stated, according to KMSP-TV.
Hazlett III allegedly stormed into a hunting cabin in Hinckley, Minnesota, while his dad and two others were having dinner Friday.
One of the witnesses told police they received an alert on their phone that an armed man was walking up the driveway toward the home. As they went to retrieve their own firearm, they alleged Hazlett III barged in and fired off several shots into the elder Hazlett, police said, the outlet reported.
A witness said Hazlett III held the remaining people captive and forced them to stay put on the couch, while he allegedly walked back over to his dad's body "to make sure he was dead" and shot him in the head "execution style," charging documents read, according to the station.
One of the witnesses alleged Hazlett III "entered with a mission... He entered to kill him."
Hazlett III demanded his captors leave their cell phones before subsequently allowing them to leave. They ran to a neighbor for help.
Speaking with investigators, witnesses claimed the father and son had a troubled relationship, the documents read, according to KARE-TV.
The elder Hazlett previously called police a month prior to report his son for trespassing.
Witnesses alleged the father and son "weren't getting along and hadn't for a long time," charging documents stated, KMSP reported.
Hazlett III was taken into custody at his home in Cambridge, Minnesota.
It's unclear if he entered pleas to the charges.
