A Las Vegas suspect accused of living with their roommate's dead body for weeks admitted they "put her in the icebox" because they "didn't know what to do," say police.
Daniel Roush, 37, who also goes by the name "Jazlynn," has been charged with second-degree murder, jail records show. Roush has denied the charges.
Roush is accused of killing 68-year-old Monique Gilbertson at their Las Vegas home sometime in October, according to a police report, The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.
Officers responding to a welfare check at their shared residence Nov. 6 discovered Gilbertson's corpse in the freezer.
"I put her in the icebox because I didn't know what to do,"Roush allegedly told police, according to the paper. "Until I could figure it out, I had her in the icebox."
Gilbertson invited Roush to live with her after meeting at a Home Depot, a person who knew the victim told police, the arrest report read, according to KTNV-TV. A week later, she began to complain about missing property and the suspect's drug paraphernalia.
During questioning, Roush alleged he found Gilbertson dead at the dining room table, surrounded by drugs. The discovery purportedly prompted them to stuff her body in the freezer.
Roush's wife – who Roush lived apart from – alleged to investigators that her spouse was a drug dealer and confessed to her that the suspect gave Gilbertson fentanyl-laced cocaine. Roush purportedly witnessed the victim overdose, their wife said, according to the report.
A search of the property allegedly yielded cocaine, methamphetamine, fentanyl, and drug paraphernalia. Investigators also claimed they found blood near the freezer.
Roush is due back in court Nov. 28.
