A Wisconsin man accused of hurling a baby against a wall allegedly confessed the frustration he was experiencing while playing video games subsequently drove him to throw the infant.
"He hit his head hard on the wall, bro. I swear he hit his head hard on the wall," Jalin White, 20, allegedly admitted to police last week after first trying to dodge responsibility, court documents stated, according to WITI-TV. "I heard the wall, it was hard on his head. It was hard. It was a loud hard wall."
Authorities first launched a child abuse investigation Nov. 5 after a Milwaukee hospital was forced to intubate the severely injured 8-month-old boy.
Doctors determined the baby suffered brain hemorrhages, a broken skull and several fractured ribs.
"A craniectomy was performed to drain the subdural hemorrhage and alleviate pressure on the baby's brain. Based on the severity of the baby's brain injury, the baby is not expected to survive," police wrote, citing doctors, according to court records.
During police questioning, White allegedly changed up his story several times and tried to pin the baby's injuries on the infant's mother, who also lived in the home. He alleged the woman bumped the victim's head on the door frame while rushing out of a room to show him the unconscious baby. He also claimed the baby fell from a bed during a diaper change.
White later on claimed he picked up the fussy infant out of his playpen in an effort to "keep him chill for a little bit" while he played NBA 2K, court documents stated. He alleged he dropped the infant as he squirmed.
Further questioning purportedly prompted White to confess to tossing the infant against the wall out of frustration over his video game because he was down two points in the fourth quarter, court records stated.
The relationship between White and the victim remains unclear.
White has been charged with child abuse and neglect, jail records indicate, however, upgraded charges are expected if the baby dies.
