Florida Beachgoer Stumbles Upon Human Head Washed Ashore

Police in Florida are investigating after a human head washed ashore on Key Biscayne, a barrier island just east of Miami.

The Miami-Dade Police Department responded to the beach near the 200 block of Crandon Boulevard, behind the Key Colony II Ocean Sound condominium building, after a person raking the beach discovered the head at around 8:30 a.m. and called authorities.

A section of the beach was closed off while detectives examined the remains at the scene.

Authorities have not confirmed whether the head belonged to a man or woman, or how long the individual appeared to have been dead.

Miami-Dade homicide detectives are working with the medical examiner to determine the identity of the individual.
