A Texas singer remains hospitalized after being shot by a "robotic" woman while signing autographs following her performance at a downtown Dallas concert hall.

Jada Thomas, 26, suffered a gunshot wound to the chest Saturday evening at The Black Academy of Arts and Letters, police said, according to WFAA-TV.

Thomas had just wrapped up her act and was onstage signing autographs when 26-year-old Micah Williams allegedly fired on her from the crowd.

The suspect fled but was apprehended shortly after, allegedly with a gun inside her purse.

Witnesses told police Williams was acting "really robotic and off" leading up to the alleged shooting, said police, the outlet reported.

Curtis King, the director and founder of the academy, confessed he was "confused, distraught, angry, upset, disappointed" over the incident.

"It was so bizarre, it was almost like a movie, like a bad dream," he told the station.

Police informed King that Williams had ties to the academy and attended a summer program he hosted a decade ago.

"They said, 'Mr. King, she has performed here at the Black Academy.' She was in a summer program 10-12 years ago," he explained, according to KDFW-TV. "I am not going to allow people to walk in fear and come to a place that I enjoy."

Williams faces a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and is being held on $200,000 bond, according to jail records.

It's unclear if she entered a plea.

Details on a motive have not been disclosed.
