A bloodied suspected gunman was hauled out of the swanky Atlanta hotel where he allegedly triggered an hours-long standoff after firing off multiple shots from the 33rd floor.

Authorities identified Jay Stevens Berger, a 70-year-old retired doctor and resident at the Four Seasons Hotel, as the purported shooter. Berger suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound inflicted by a SWAT officer responding to the barricade situation Tuesday, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

The incident – believed to have been sparked by the suspect experiencing a mental health crisis – began to unfold around 10 a.m., with Atlanta police responding to reports of a subject pointing a gun at staff and throwing items in the hallway. When officers arrived, Berger barricaded himself inside his residence and allegedly began firing off his weapon into the hallway and through the walls, according to the GBI.

Donning a gas mask and waving American flags, Berger then moved to the balcony where he was seen launching furniture to the ground floor, according to WXIA-TV.

During the incident, a SWAT officer shot Berger and authorities were able to take him into custody. He was wheeled out on a stretcher and transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Upon release, he will be taken to Fulton County jail.

Authorities are expected to charge Berger with aggravated assault and reckless endangerment, said police.
