A 4-year-old boy accidentally shot himself with a gun found in his mother's car after she left him unattended to pick up takeout.

Latisha Walker, 26, left her son in the car on Friday around 1:45 p.m. for less than five minutes at a business parking lot in Sacramento, Calif., before witnesses reported hearing the boy's cries for help after the shooting.

Shynice Cordoba, 19, was at a nearby nail salon when she heard the boy's mother screaming, CBS News reported.

"I go outside, he's just laying on the floor. I need something to put pressure on his wound," Cordoba said.

Following the incident, the boy was taken to the hospital and received immediate attention. Walker was taken into custody at the scene and is facing charges including child endangerment and criminal storage of a firearm.

"I get the tissue and I put it on his wound. He was talking to me and I was talking to him, he was really scared," Cordoba said. "He kept saying he shot himself, he shot himself. So I was like, it's OK you're not in trouble. It's fine."

Walker's bail was set at $75,000, which she posted the day after the arrest. She is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, October 31.
