An Indiana homeowner accused of throwing an "out of hand" high school Halloween party that led to a mass shooting will face felony charges, while one the shooters will walk scot-free, according to authorities.
The homeowner, identified as 42-year-old Joanna Eastes of Fort Wayne, Indiana, has been charged with neglect of a dependent, furnishing property for the purpose of enabling minors to consume alcohol, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, in connection with an underage bash advertised on social media telling partygoers to bring their own alcohol and marijuana, WANF-TV reported, citing police.
It's unclear if she entered a plea to the charges.
Eastes is accused of hosting the party with mostly high school-aged teens in attendance the night of Oct. 19, when "it quickly got out of hand and the parent/homeowner retreated to her bedroom and locked the door, but did not notify police," leading to a shootout, said authorities.
Willie Venzell Ivy III was the first to fire off several rounds, striking nine victims.
Ivy was shot and killed by an unidentified person "acting in defense of himself and other partygoers," according to authorities. "This man will not face criminal charges as his actions were justified under established Indiana self-defense law."
The victims ranged in age from 14 to 20.
Eastes is being held at the Allen County Jail.
