FIFA to shoulder Neymar's salary with Barcelona to compensate for World Cup back injury

By

According to a report by Inside Spanish Football, FIFA will be awarding FC Barcelona part of Neymar's salary with the football club as compensation for the back injury he received during the tournament's quarterfinals match between Brazil and Colombia. The football star had been ruled not fit to play for a month thanks to a fractured vertebrae he received in a collision with opponent Juan Camilo Zuniga. Zuniga has since been cleared by FIFA of liability for Neymar's injury.

The sports blog said that the move is actually a longstanding principle of the world soccer body with regard to players who had gotten injured in international competitions. Once a player has received injuries and has been ruled to be not able to play for more than 28 days, FIFA is required to pay part of the player's salary with his football club. This means that starting on August 2, FIFA will begin paying Barcelona €13,972 per day in fees until Neymar returns from his back injury to play for his club.

Inside Spanish Football said that Neymar is believed to need rest and rehabilitation for around six weeks, but Barcelona would still get the good side of the deal thanks to FIFA regulations money-wise. Barcelona has already enjoyed this kind of deal with the world soccer body before when Victor Valdes at that time was alsi injured in an international competition last season. On the other hand, Barcelona officials might rejoice in the fact that one of their football stars is recovering nicely from his injury. According to the club officials who have visited the football player, Neymar, who is currently at his home in Brazil, will be returning to Barcelona on August 5 in order to continue with the final phase of his recovery from his back injury, FOX Sports reported.
