A dramatic encounter between Arizona police and a driver found slumped over the wheel unfolded when the man resisted arrest and fled from police while dragging taser wires behind him.

On October 22, police in Tempe, Arizona, approached a parked SUV after getting several reports of a possibly intoxicated driver, Fox 10 Phoenix reported. When they discovered Kevin Johnson, 44, he was unresponsive in the vehicle, prompting officers to open the door and communicate with him.

Johnson became seemingly combative and rammed his vehicle into two patrol cars, striking several officers in the process. Despite officers tasering him multiple times, Johnson fled the scene dragging the taser wires behind him, and striking one more vehicle on the way.

This developed into a pursuit where Johnson eluded authorities until the following day. Police located the suspect in the parking lot of a Dunkin' in Avondale, nearly an hour away from the scene.

Johnson was arrested and booked into custody, where he admitted involvement in the incident. He claimed to have fled police out of fear and not intent to harm anyone.

"Post Miranda, Kevin admitted to police about his involvement in this incident," court documents stated. "Kevin apologized for his actions and stated that he was not intentionally trying to hurt the officers but was trying to flee because he was scared."

The man is now facing charges of aggravated assault and unlawful flight.
