The sole survivor of a deadly massacre that left five family members dead in their upscale Washington state home was released from a Seattle hospital Thursday, the same day her teen brother suspect is expected to face a judge for the alleged murders, say reports.
Despite being shot twice, the lone surviving female victim was able to call 911 while she took cover in a bathroom, leading to the arrest of her 15-year-old sibling, sources said, according to KIRO-TV.
The suspect allegedly killed their parents, Mark and Sarah Humiston, and their three other siblings in a fatal shooting at the family's Fall City, Washington, residence early Monday.
The alleged killer, whose identity has been withheld due to his age, faces five counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder in connection with the grisly incident, according to prosecutors.
"We want the court to know that our client is a 15-year-old boy who enjoys mountain biking and fishing and has no criminal history," his defense attorney, Amy Parker, told the court during the suspect's preliminary hearing Tuesday, KING-TV reported.
The King County Prosecutor's Office confirmed the suspect's lack of criminal record.
"It's unusual to see these kinds of allegations with no previous contact with the prosecutor's office, but that's what we have here," Casey McNerthney, spokesperson for the prosecutor's office, said, according to KIRO.
A motive in the quintuple slayings remains under investigation.
"I keep bursting into tears," neighbor Lynne Trowern, who knew the family of seven, told the station Tuesday. "That's why I have to go to my daughter's house – because I can't be there on my own. I just keep seeing their faces."
The community held a vigil honoring the victims outside the Fall City United Methodist Church Tuesday night.
