A suspect is in jail following an attempted kidnapping of a little girl, who fought off her attacker until he fled.

On Oct. 15, a Colorado man broke into the room of an 8-year-old in an early morning abduction attempt, according to the Sterling Police Department. The child fought her assailant until he gave up and ran away.

By Oct. 19 Sterling police identified and arrested Thomas Gallegos using "a significant amount of digital, forensic, and physical evidence."

"The Sterling Police Department wishes to thank the community for their assistance in taking a dangerous predator off the streets," the Sterling Police Department said in an arrest update posted to Facebook.

Gallegos is in jail charged with felony counts of burglary, assault, and attempted kidnapping, and misdemeanor assault and child abuse.
