Hours after she obtained a restraining order against him, a Los Angeles woman's ex-boyfriend committed a murder-suicide after initially opening fire on her 26-year-old son, who is expected to survive.

Police responded to a reported shooting in Bellflower to find a man suffering from a gunshot wound to his hip. While attending to the gunshot victim, police heard a single gunshot.

"As they're speaking to him about what's going on, they hear a single gunshot come from inside the apartment he just exited," Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Lt. Hugo Reynaga told KTLA 5.

Law enforcement entered the apartment to find the wounded man's mother, 54, and the suspect, 59, each suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim's son, who lived with his mother, told police he was in his room when the suspect kicked down their apartment door. The suspect then opened the victim's door and shot him in the hip before finding and shooting his screaming mother. While police tended to the man, the suspect turned the gun on himself.

The lieutenant told KTLA 5 police have responded to seven domestic violence calls at the apartment since July. The victim had also obtained a restraining order against the suspect the day of the shooting.
