A 17-year-old Detroit teen is accused of slaying his gay 64-year-old date he met on an app, according to police.
Authorities believe Ahmed Al-Alikhan targeted Howard Brisendine because of his sexual orientation as he was a member of the LGBTQ+ community, reported FOX 2.
Al-Alikhan is less than a month away from turning 18; however, prosecutor Kym Worthy said her office has charged the 17-year-old as an adult.
He's now facing first-degree murder, felony murder, and unlawful driving away of an automobile.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, September 24 at Brisendine's home. Al-Alikhan allegedly stabbed him several times, killing him and then fleeing the scene in the victim's vehicle.
On Sunday, September 29, Brisendine's boss and landlord, Luis Mandujano, found Brisendine's body during a welfare check and called 911.
"Al-Alikhan was taken into custody by the Dearborn Police Department and turned over to the Detroit Police Department on October 1," according to the prosecutor's office.
While Brisendine was also a registered sex offender, the prosecutor's office did not comment on that in their press release.
The suspect has been arraigned and is currently in jail, awaiting his next court appearance.
