Thiago Silva, Luiz Scolari poses with 'lucky' Argentina flag ahead of World Cup semifinal

A photo obtained by Daily Mail showed a very curious image of two known Brazilian figures posing while holding a World Cup rival flag ahead of their match against Germany at Belo Horizonte.

Brazil manager Luiz Felipe Scolari and captain Thiago Silva had initially posed for a photo while holding a flag supplied by Argentina newspaper El Diario de la Republica during a press conference ahead of its last-16 match with Chile. Although the Brazilians had won the game through penalties against their South American opponents, Scolari was reportedly quick to accept the invitation to pose again while holding the flag once more before their clash against the Germans on Tuesday.

Scolar had also queerly called the the flag "lucky," and even called for his captain, Silva, to pose as well. Silva is suspended for picking up his second yellow card during its match against Colombia.

On the other hand, that luck appeared to be elusive as the Brazilians are proving to be outmatched by Joachim Low's team. Germany has scored its fifth goal against the Brazilians in the 29th minute courtesy of Sami Khedira. Toni Kroos and Thomas Muller had each contributed one goal for Germany, with Miroslave Klose scoring two for his home team. Klose has also something to celebrate too, as the match marked his record number of World Cup goals at 16.

Although the field was initially charged for Brazil thanks to the host nation's legion of fans cheering for their Neymar and Silva-less team, the pitch was definitely the Germans' in the first half.

Low's concerns about the sloppy refereeing at the World Cup, on the other hand, seemed to have been working towards his advantage. Former World Cup referee and Sportsmail's Graham Poll said, "Well we now know that the referees are going to keep officiating leniently as Muller escapes a yellow card for a clear pull back on Marcelo."
