Texas Police Begin Manhunt For Man Who Gunned Down Their Police Chief

A manhunt was underway in Texas on Friday for a man suspected of shooting a law enforcement officer, authorities said.

The Texas Department of Public Safety issued a Blue Alert early Friday for 33-year-old Seth Altman, who was last seen in Memphis, Texas, about 80 miles south of Amarillo, Thursday night. Altman is wanted for the "killing or serious injury" of a law enforcement officer.

Per reports, Memphis Police Chief Rex Plant and another officer tried to arrest Altman for attempted burglary at around 11 p.m. Thursday. Altman allegedly shot Plant multiple times. Plant was flown to a hospital in Lubbock.

The City of Memphis said City Hall would be closed with doors locked on Friday as a precaution.

Altman is described as standing six feet, two inches tall, weighing 220 pounds, with red hair and blue eyes, He was last seen wearing a blue T-shirt and blue jeans.

Authorities said Altman is considered armed and dangerous. Members of the public who see Altman should not approach him and should immediately call 911.
